The Grazon looked out from his window, watching the people scramble. "Isss there sssomething wrong great Grazzon?" He looked back at the voice. It came from one of his personal yaurion. Hooded, he could see nothing of it, but what seemed to be a man in a black robe. "No, nothing." He began to think of his childhood friend, who now opposed him. He sat in his massive chair behind a grand stone table. "One of you, go get one of the servants." The one who spoke earlier bowed, and rushed off. The Grazon was lost in his thoughts when the servant entered. "What do you need my lord?" The Grazon placed his hand on the table. "Some food would be wonderful, meat of any kind, with a bottle of wine if you would." The human bowed. "Yes mi' lord, straight away." "Oh, and enough for my friends as well." The scrawny man nodded, and was off. Perhaps soon this so called Overlord would show himself, and he could take his rightful place.

Xanatos walked through the castle's halls, his mind taken up with the day's tasks. He knew being king would introduce many new duties, but he never expected all the power hungry nobles who hid their purposes behind fake smiles and many words. Sighing he looked back to the days before. As a slayer, he didn't need to worry about these issues and everything was black and white. Now, along with his slayer duties he was attempting to keep up with, he had a whole new set of duties that gave him very little free time. But it also allowed him unrestricted access to any area that he wanted to get into. His footsteps echoed as he wandered the empty, twisting halls.

As The Grazon ate, he ordered one of his "monks" to go get the temple's orders for him today. The Yaurion monk bowed and was off. As it ran down the hall, it bumped into Xanatos. "Terribly ssorry ssir." It continued on it's way.

Xanatos watched the robed figure leave curiously. The poor fellow obviously had a speeking problem. Recognizing the robe style, he quickly determined that he was a messenger for Grazon. Since he had time, he decided to go ahead and drop by. Approaching the doorway, he knocked, smiling lightly to himself. He as king didn't actually need to ask permission, but he didn't need to let the power go to his head. "Grazon, it's Xanatos. Would you mind if I come in?"

The Grazon looked up. "Go ahead." He looked at the yaurion, his bare face serious. "Leave us." "Yess great one." They bowed, and exited the room each one bowing before the king as well. "So what do you need my King?"

Xanatos smiled. "Nothing at all. I just happened to be walking near here and decided to drop by. I've heard some things about you, and was curious. Because I was a dragon slayer, I didn't listen to too much that didn't involve dragons or the half-breeds. What exactly do you do?"

"What ever is needed by the temple. I've been trained all my life to be a fighter." He shrugged his massive shoulders. "Sadly I'm treated like an item by the temple, but a hero to just about everyone else." He glanced around his huge quarters, filled with gold goblets, and just about any other precious metal or stone. "The monks helped take care of me when I was younger. Oddly they all have speech imparities." The monk he sent for his orders just arrived. "My lord, I have your ordersss for today." He handed the scroll over to his master, showing his grey hand, with long yellow finger nails. He quickly withdrew it back into his robe, and extited the room. "Seems a man is spreading blasphemy among the lower levels about the temple. I've gotta go get him. But it can wait. So, what's your story your highness?"

"Me? I don't have too much of a story. My father was killed when I was young by a dragon attack and I took his place. After that, I worked my way through the ranks until I became one of their top generals. Somewhere in between all that, the king adopted me as his son since I was fatherless. He died, and I became king. Anything else you want to know?"

"So how is it being a king? How many women do you have lining up to greet you? Oh, would you like some wine?" He grabbed a jade goblet from the cubboard behind him, poured in a glass.

"Being king isn't all you would expect it to be. Sure it has it's perks, but there are many people who would do anything to gain something more. And they have a very round-about way of asking for it. It can be extremely tiring. But there are quite a few women who would wish to become queen." He took the glass of wine from the Grazon and took a sip. "Thank you." He looked around at the Grazon's many luxuries.. "Apparently being a paladin has it's advantages too."

The Grazon smiled. "Most of these are gifts from multiple fans. But, you know temple rewarded me greatly for stopping that drakòn squad from killing one of your nobles."

Xanatos smiled. "Yah, it's too bad though that a noble's life is worth more than a peasent. I bet you wouldn't have gotten much of a reward for stopping one of their raids on a small village. Do you know which drakòn they were? Or did you manage to kill them?"

"Killed one, wounded one, think his name was Aragohm, then there was a golden dragon, and a green serpent dragon." The Grazon said thoughtfully. "Why do you ask?"

"I just wanted to see if I recognized any of them. I'm guessing that this attack was quite a few years ago, correct?"

"Yeah a few years ago..." His thoughts drifted to his parents, and their cowardly deaths. He shook his head, forcing the image to leave. "So, was your father anyone important?"

Xanatos grimaced and looked away. "No, he was just a slayer of no renown. But he gained a lot of attention when they learned it was Maelstrom, the late dragon king, who killed him. What about your father?"

The Grazon's face hardened. "He was a farmer, and he died when I was young. Same time as my mother." He said it quietly, and coldly, giving the King a clear message he didn't wish to speak of it.

Xanatos nodded dropping the subject. "So what exactly do you do?"

"Knight lowly peasants, and protect the larger cities from...whatever, and sort out diplomatic issues."

The Grazon shrugged his huge shoulders. "Politics are fun, but the whole ""We need to make peasants feel important thing"" Is pretty stupid. Plus, I like fighting." He looked out the window. "But, I can't complain." He looked back toward Xanatos. "Is there something wrong?"

Xanatos quickly shook his head. "No nothing wrong, unless you count the few hundred nobles trying to manipulate their way into more power through me. But no complaints here either."

He nodded. "Well, I should be off to finish my orders." He rose, grabbed his immense sword from the wall, and strapped it to his belt. He bowed respectfuly. "Until next time my leige." He left the room.
