The first age, not the beginning of Aragohm, but the beginning of recorded history.
Everything seemed at peace...or something akin to the word. Dwarves and elves were on shaky relations with the other race, and dragons and humans while not openly declaring war, were fighting small skirmishes.
During this, an elf named Kaidok, chose to take advantage of the situations and gathered a large group of supporters. When he had gained enough of a following, he marched on the elven capital and slew the leaders and declared himself king.
One by one, he gained control of the major cities, moving his way steadily outward. Most quickly succombed to his rule as they feared for there lives. Only one city in what is now known as Malah forest stood against Kaidok.
In rage, Kaidok filled the forest with spells never before seen coming from an elf and twisted the forest. What was once lush and filled with life, became dead and poisoned. The elves who survived the initial attack found themselves slowly mutating into something else: The dark elves. A twisted version of the elves, they hate all life and would like nothing more than to choke the life out of every living thing.
Realizing the potential of the dark elves, Kaidok put a barrier around Malah forest entrapping the dark elves within, then resumed taking control of the elven lands. Nobody dared oppose him after the defeat of those in Malah forest. Fearing for their lives, they gladly gave themselves over to Kaidok. 100 years after Kaidok had begun his campaign for the elven nation, he was victorious.
Building his forces for another few years, he declared war on the dwarves. Unprepared for the sudden onslaught, and unity of the elven race, the dwarves cried out for help from the dragons and humans, but were refused due to problems of their own.
The fall of the dwarves was a silent and bloody thing. Unable to stand against Kaidok's magics and united forces, the dwarven army was massacred and the survivors were forced into slavery for the elves. Not satisfied with this conquest, Kaidok turned his eyes eastward towards the dragons and humans.
Seeing the obvious advantage of dragons in battle, he sent emissionaries to ask for an alliance. The dragon lords thought over the request for a time, but refused. They had no wish to destroy their enemies, seeking peace instead.
In anger Kaidok ordered assassins to slay the dragon lords to make room for dragons more sympethetic to his cause. However, the assassinations failed and the dragons were outraged at the elves treachary. Convinving the humans that they had a common enemy, they stood against Kaidok and his forces, united as one for the first time in centuries.
The dwarves meanwhile were not content to live in slavery. When the elves became lax in their watchfullness, a young fiery dwarf united the slaves to fight back against their oppressors.
With attacks coming from the front from the united races, and the dwarves starting a rebellion back in their lands, Kaidok's forces withered away until the elves themselves turned against the tyrant. Calling for peace, the elves captured Kaidok and banished him to Malah forest. With the elven tyrant no longer in control, new elven leaders were chosen. Quickly, they gave the dwarves back their entire territory with much compinsation, and worked for peaceful relations between themselves and the humans and dragons.
Peace ensued then for many years as the races went back to lick their wounds and rebuild their lost cities.
