A few hundred years after the events of the first age, a lasting peace seems to be finally at hand. But, Kaidok was still alive and plotting his dominion once again. Banished into the Malah forest, he underwent a change that twisted and deformed his entire body beyond recognition, along with his magic.
Biding his time, he learned how to use his twisted magic and used it for his own purposes. The barrier around Malah forest was powered by an enourmous ring of trees, and since Kaidok was the one who set it up, he also knew how to take it down. If the trees were dead, the barrier would fall.
With this in mind, Kaidok killed the trees from within, using his magic to poison the waters and the trees themselves. The process took centuries, but Kaidok was patient.
During this time, he found "sympathetic" elves outside the barrier whos minds he'd poisoned and twisted. The elves only purpose was to sow seeds of discontent with their current leaders and incite rebellion.
By the time the barrier fell, Kaidok had marsheled a large force of dark elves from within, and his followers from outside had succeded in their tasks. Most of the elven lands was in civil war.
Taking advantage of the confusion, Kaidok allied himselves with the strongest houses and took control of the elven capital once again. Realizing that there was a new leader, the elves stopped fighting once they had realized it was Kaidok. In horror, the elves quickly submitted to his rule, knowing that it was too late to stop him.
Once he'd gained power and control of all the elves, he sent an emissary to the dwarves in hopes of an alliance. The dwarves had no knowledge of the elves civil war and change in power, for it had been a quiet ordeal, and agreed to the proposed alliance.
Sending another envoy to them, the proposed a war against the dragon and humans for refusing to come to their aid during the war. The dwarves were all for it, boiling for vengence for their time of slavery.
Kaidok sent an emissary to the dragons persuading them that their only intentions were to attack a few of the men's villages in retribution for unwarrented attacks on their own. They requested that the dragons leave them alone during their venture. Seeing that this would not hurt their own race, and may even teach the humans a lesson in humility, they agreed to leave them alone.
With the dragon's word, Kaidok struck swiftly, catching the humans unawares and soundly defeated the entire kingdom in less than a year, then turned on the dragons.
Outraged, the dragons mobalized and went out to meet them, but in their first battle suffered many casulties from the unknown dark elves.
Retreating, they swallowed their pride and requested aid from the gnomes. The gnomes, realizing that Kaidok would turn on them after the dragons were defeated and would have no allies for themselves, agreed.
Kaidok had not anticipated the gnomes entering battle as they were a passive race. As such, he was unprepared for their magic.
The dragons and gnomes made a powerful team. The dragons struck from the air, and the gnomes magic left Kaidok's forces defenseless.
Soundly beaten, they were forced to retreat back to their own lands where Kaidok was forced from the seat of power once again. The elves, unwilling to take the life of any elf, no matter how foul, banished Kaidok once again to Malah forest, but this time increasing the barrier's power around the forest and keeping watch in case Kaidok should ever escape again before his death.
The land returned to peace once again and the various races started studying magic in depth after seeing what the gnomes could do.
